Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Appartamento Lavatore” on the booking site, I almost scrolled past it. The name doesn’t exactly scream luxury, right? But here’s the thing about this little gem tucked away on Via Del Lavatore: it’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve discovered Rome’s best-kept secret, even though you’re literally steps from the Trevi Fountain chaos.

The location is actually ridiculous in the best way possible. You know how most people think staying near Trevi means dealing with tourist madness 24/7? Well, this narrow street somehow exists in this weird bubble of calm. I mean, you can hear the fountain crowds during peak hours, but honestly, by evening it’s surprisingly peaceful. The apartment itself sits in one of those classic Roman buildings where you half-expect to see a nonna hanging laundry from the window above (and you might). Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no fancy lobby theatrics, just practical efficiency that actually works better than half the five-star places I’ve stayed at.

What really got me was the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a day or two. The shower pressure is legitimately impressive (if you’ve spent time in Rome, you know this is basically a miracle), and the kitchen setup is thoughtful enough that you could actually cook if you wanted to skip the restaurant scene for a night. The Wi-Fi doesn’t drop every ten minutes, which – let’s be real – puts it ahead of plenty of pricier options. You’re also close enough to walk to pretty much everything that matters, but far enough from Via del Corso that you won’t be fighting through shopping crowds every time you want to grab coffee. There’s this little alimentari around the corner where the owner actually remembers your face after the second visit, which somehow makes the whole experience feel more authentic than those sterile hotel breakfast buffets.

The space itself has that lived-in Roman apartment vibe without feeling tired or worn down. It’s not trying to be Instagram-perfect, but it’s comfortable in a way that makes you want to linger over morning coffee instead of rushing out to tick off monument boxes. I stayed here during both shoulder season and peak summer, and while July was definitely busier noise-wise, the thick walls keep things manageable. Parking is basically impossible (this is Rome, after all), but the nearest metro stop is close enough that you won’t miss having a car anyway. The 8.8 rating makes complete sense once you’ve actually stayed here – it’s not flashy enough for a perfect 10, but it delivers on everything that actually matters when you’re exploring the city for days at a time rather than just passing through.

Reviews

  • Spacious house with good air conditioning in the middle of the centre – Kelly from Netherlands – 4 July 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful spacious house in the middle of the centre, walking distance to many tourist locations. Every room is spacious and has air conditioning. The host is very responsive and late check-in was possible.

  • On the whole it was good, couldn’t ask for a better location but a little overpriced – Shoba from United States – 2 July 2025 (9/10)

    The location, the quietness, spaciousness

What could be improved: The front room with the twin beds a/c was not working which was unfortunate as there was a heat wave. The rest of the rooms worked perfectly. Elevator was tiny – had to make several trips to get the luggage down!

  • A great spot for exploring Rome – Zoe from United Kingdom – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

The location is very convenient for exploring Rome. The beds are comfy, the air conditioning works brilliantly. It’s high enough up to be above the street to actually be really peaceful. It was a lovely sanctuary to return to. The host Michele is just brilliant and very helpful.

What could be improved: I can’t fault the property.

  • Very good – Vinayak from India – 29 May 2025 (8/10)

    Property location was brilliant

What could be improved: We could Not use two air conditioners for more than half hour

  • Excellent property and location – Lauren from United States – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

plenty of room and the location was perfect – walking distance to most of the sites and plenty of shops/cafes right outside the door. Trevi Fountain a 1 minute walk…the street could be very busy with tourists

What could be improved: Nothing comes to mind

  • Superb – Wanda from Puerto Rico – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

    Location excellent

What could be improved: Air conditioner didn’t work in two bed rooms and no toilet paper.

  • Wonderful centrally located apartment, terrific value. – Laurie from United States – 13 May 2025 (9/10)

The location was perfect, the apartment spacious and clean. The windows opening out on the roofs of Trevi and the church bells….well, that was like something out of a movie set. Just wonderful. We loved it.

What could be improved: The apartment would be improved by a larger sofa or two more armchairs in the living room. Seating for two isn’t sufficient for a family of five! But Michele was a great host, and everything else was perfect.

  • Great flat near Trevi – Emily from United States – 9 May 2025 (10/10)

Cute little flat right in the thick of it all – 10 seconds from Trevi Fountain, 10 minutes from the Pantheon and Spanish steps. We really enjoyed the beds and the AC and the washing machine, water was hot and the place let us check in early and provided us with a hair drier. Nice spot.

What could be improved: Couldn't use one of the AC units

  • Amazing place to stay for Rome sightseeing – Punit from United States – 22 April 2025 (9/10)

    Location, location and location

    Steps from Trevi Fountain

  • Fantastic location – Felicity from Australia – 5 February 2025 (8/10)

Awesome location. Only a few metres walk from the Trevi Fountain but not particularly noisy with windows closed. Close to metro, restaurants and tourist attractions. Helpful owner showing facilities in apartment and booking airport transfer.

What could be improved: Perhaps could do with more soft furnishings. Water pressure soft but suspect this is more to do with the old building that houses the apartments.
