Hotel Description
You know what? The Anfiteatro Suite caught me off guard in the best way possible. I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Via Ostilia, I was expecting another basic Roman hotel squeezed between ancient ruins and tourist traps. But there’s something genuinely charming about this place that grows on you, especially once you realize you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Colosseum without paying those crazy Monti neighborhood prices.
The location is actually brilliant if you know Rome a bit. You’re right in the thick of things near the Circus Maximus area, which means you can stumble back from dinner in Trastevere without breaking the bank on taxis, and honestly, the morning walk past all that history never gets old. The street itself is pretty quiet – I mean, you’ll hear the occasional vespa, but it’s not like staying right on Via dei Fori Imperiali where tour buses start rumbling at dawn. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about a good morning coffee spot, they didn’t just point me toward the nearest tourist café – they sent me to this tiny place around the corner where locals grab their espresso, and it became my daily ritual.
The rooms themselves are comfortable enough for a 3-star, though I’d say they’re on the smaller side (this is Rome, after all). The air conditioning worked well during my July stay, which honestly saved my sanity during those sweltering afternoons when you just need to retreat and recharge. The bathroom was updated and clean, with decent water pressure – not always a given in older Roman buildings. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to keep things feeling personal rather than cookie-cutter. The décor isn’t going to win any design awards, but it feels like someone’s home rather than a corporate hotel chain. Check-in was smooth, and they stored my luggage without any fuss when I arrived early. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it delivers on what it promises. If you’re the type who wants to spend your days exploring and just needs a comfortable, well-located base to crash at night, this place hits that sweet spot. Plus, and this might sound weird, but I loved falling asleep to the distant sounds of the city – it felt authentically Roman without being disruptively noisy.

Close to the Colosseum! – Pateina from Netherlands – 19 May 2025 (9/10)
The location was perfect! So close to the Colosseum and walking distance to other places. As well as a 25 min walking distance to the central station. We used the electric steps to go around the city, very fun!
What could be improved: I can’t name anything, however on our last day we could hear the outside crowd through our windows at night. Even though the windows were closed. But other than that perfect.Great place to stay. – Patrick from Canada – 21 April 2025 (8/10)
