Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Alice Home when I first walked up to that address on Viale degli Ammiragli – honestly, the name made me think it’d be some generic boutique place trying too hard. But this little 4-star gem actually surprised me, and I mean that in the best way possible.
The location is one of those spots that locals love but tourists somehow miss. You’re right in Trionfale, which – let me tell you – is where Romans actually live and eat, not just where they work or pose for photos. There’s this incredible morning buzz when you step outside; you’ve got the smell of fresh cornetti drifting from the bar downstairs, and you can hear the neighborhood coming alive with that particular Roman energy. The Vatican is close enough that you’ll walk there without breaking a sweat, but far enough that you won’t be swimming through crowds of tour groups every time you want to grab a coffee. And speaking of coffee, there’s this little place two blocks down that serves the kind of espresso that’ll ruin Starbucks for you forever – the hotel staff actually pointed me toward it, which says something about how they think about their guests.
The rooms themselves have this lived-in comfort that feels authentic rather than sterile. I stayed in one facing the street, and yes, you’ll hear some traffic in the morning (it’s Rome, after all), but it’s not the kind of noise that keeps you up – more like the city’s gentle wake-up call. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, with one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent water pressure, and the bed was firm in that European way that somehow leaves you feeling more rested than those marshmallow mattresses back home. What really got me was the attention to small details – fresh towels that didn’t smell like industrial detergent, a mini-fridge that actually kept things cold, and WiFi that worked consistently even when I was video-calling home. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense when you add it all up; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Rome, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you that neighborhood authenticity you can’t manufacture. Check-in was smooth, the front desk guy spoke excellent English (and even better Italian patience when I butchered basic phrases), and honestly, by the third day I felt like I was staying at a friend’s place rather than just another hotel. If you want to experience Rome like someone who actually lives there, instead of just visiting the postcard version, Alice Home gets it right.

Reviews
Highly recommended- would book again – Debbie from United Kingdom – 13 April 2025 (9/10)
Highly recommended apartment. Gave us the space we needed as a family with teenagers. Clean and comfortable in a great location- walking distance to the Vatican but also the metro to take us all around the city easily. Shops and supermarkets within 2 minutes walking – everything you could need close by.
Great views of the Vatican city from he balcony- lovely to see this in the morning and lit up at night.
Check in details sent beforehand- great communication and no problems- easy to follow. There is a small lift on site so no need to take the stairs if difficult.
Transfers organised by Host (Alice) on request- great communication and no issues.
Our baggage was lost by the airline for 2 days and Alice helped with additional arrangements to get our suitcase delivered back to us. She was brilliant- always on hand if needed to arrange anything.
Also arranged transfer back to airport and baggage storage so we could enjoy the city more before our late flight home.
Would highly recommend- we would book this apartment again if we are lucky enough to return to Rome.Very good – Estinozo from United Kingdom – 21 March 2025 (8/10)
The location.
Great appartment and good location – Jean-claude from Canada – 19 August 2024 (8/10)
The appartment is very spacious. Virtual key required to open the building and the appartment doors – the renter sent them by email. The Wifi and the Air Conditioning worked very well.
What could be improved: The bathub was slippery. The shower in the second bathroom is very very small. The kitchen ustensils limited (knife).A fantastic stay in a prime location with authentic local charm, great views and easy access to Rome – Georgi from Sweden – 26 May 2025 (9/10)
The location was excellent—only a 30-minute walk from the Vatican Museums. There are many family-run restaurants nearby offering authentic dishes at reasonable prices. The closest metro station is just a 6-minute walk away, and the nearest train station is about 8 minutes on foot. The terrace on the 7th floor provides a wonderful view. For breakfast, you can easily pick up something from a spot just around the corner. The price was fair, and we really enjoyed our stay. Access to the property was quick and straightforward, but you’ll need internet since everything is managed online.
What could be improved: The main downside was the noise—since the building dates back to the 60s or 70s, you can hear quite a bit of street noise (although it does quiet down after 10 p.m.). A small issue was that one of the bedrooms had a bed that was only a one-and-a-half size, which might be more suitable for young couples.Very good – Lana from Georgia – 14 September 2024 (8/10)
The owner was very kind, he was always online and ready to help, the location is good, not too close and not too far from the Vatican, there was a metro station nearby.
Very good – Charles from United States – 12 June 2023 (8/10)
Comfortable and great price
What could be improved: Outdated but comfortablegood location and good value – Lene from France – 21 May 2023 (8/10)
the apartment was much bigger than I expected. the location is good, very close to metro. there are supermarkets, cafes and restaurants around as well. the host was very friendly and she gave me many useful information.
What could be improved: the couch bed in the living room was actually broken. we managed to extend it as a bed but it was not very stable… also the doors are old so it made a lot of loud noise when we close it and open it.Exceptional – Chrif from United Kingdom – 29 July 2024 (10/10)
Amazing location, very large property, and Alice was wonderful.
Thanks a lot, Alice, for having me and my family.
