Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Roman hotels, and the Albani on Via Adda honestly surprised me in the best way. You know how sometimes a place just feels right the moment you walk in? That’s this hotel – it’s got this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciate more than those over-the-top lobby productions you see everywhere.

The location is what really sold me though. Via Adda sits in this lovely residential pocket near Villa Borghese, and I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the park’s main entrance. The area feels properly Roman – tree-lined streets, locals walking their dogs, that neighborhood gelateria on the corner that’s been there forever. You won’t find tourist traps here, which is refreshing. The Spanish Steps are maybe a 15-minute stroll south, but honestly, I found myself spending more time just wandering the quieter streets around the hotel. There’s something about staying where Romans actually live that makes the whole experience feel more authentic.

What I really liked about the Albani is how they handle the little things. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Rome, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with decent storage and, thank god, proper blackout curtains. The air conditioning actually works (not always a given in older Roman buildings), and the Wi-Fi is solid throughout. I stayed on the fourth floor and could hear the gentle hum of the city below, but nothing that kept me awake. The breakfast spread is pretty standard continental fare, though their coffee is legit – the kind that makes you wonder why hotel coffee is usually so terrible elsewhere. The staff genuinely seems to care about what you’re up to, and they’ll give you actual neighborhood recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the Colosseum.

Here’s the thing about the Albani’s rating – that 7.9 feels about right, maybe even a touch conservative. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you a real Roman neighborhood experience. The metro station at Castro Pretorio is a reasonable walk when you want to venture further out, and honestly, the area around the hotel feels safe and pleasant even late at night. I’ve recommended it to friends who want something more authentic than the usual tourist quarter hotels, and they’ve all been happy with the choice. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re living in Rome for a few days rather than just visiting it.

  What could be improved: Weird that a 4Star hotel allows pets into the rooms. The dog in the room next to us kept barking and trying to break out of his room all night. The staff can do nothing about it. Otherwise a good hotel.
