Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into the AC Hotel by Marriott Clodio Roma, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away on Via di Santa Lucia, which honestly isn’t the most glamorous street in Rome, but you know what? That actually works in its favor. You’re right in the Prati district, which means you’re living like Romans do instead of being stuck in tourist central with all the chaos that comes with it.

The thing that really got me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel distinctly modern without losing that Roman edge. The lobby has this clean, minimalist vibe – very AC Hotel brand if you know their style – but they’ve incorporated these subtle nods to the city that feel genuine, not forced. And honestly, after a day of navigating cobblestones and ancient ruins, there’s something refreshing about sinking into a space that feels… well, designed for actual comfort. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star property, but with better lighting than most European hotels (thank god), and the beds are actually firm enough to sleep on without feeling like you’re camping. I mean, the soundproofing is decent too, which matters because even though Prati is quieter than the center, Romans still know how to live loudly.

But here’s the real kicker – the location is actually brilliant once you figure it out. You’re a ten-minute walk from the Vatican, which means you can pop over early morning before the crowds descend, then retreat back to your quiet neighborhood. The Ottaviano metro stop is right there, so you can get anywhere in the city without the hassle, and there’s this fantastic little mercato on Via Andrea Doria (just a few blocks away) where you can grab real prosciutto and cheese if you’re tired of hotel breakfast. Speaking of which, their breakfast is… fine. Nothing spectacular, but the coffee is properly Italian, and they have decent pastries. The staff genuinely seems to care about what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given in chain hotels – they’ll actually give you neighborhood recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. One guy at the front desk told me about this tiny trattoria around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in Rome. The 8.5 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s thoughtfully done and well-executed, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to actually experience a city instead of just Instagram it.

  What could be improved: The hotel charged my credit card prior to my arrival even prior to the deadline of free cancellation option. When I asked for reason, I was told the hotel was fully booked and therefore they simply decided to charge the room ahead. It caused me a technical problem and it was in contradiction to the agreed conditions of the booking. Disappointment.

  What could be improved: Far away from everything. Dependent on taxi or metro for transportation which is far away. Not in an ideal location and expensive. Summers in Rome are hot and it will take at least 15 min or more to reach the closest metro stop depending on how fast of a walker you are.
